Pollyanna McIntosh
Pollyanna McIntosh was born in Portugal
and Colombia But she returned to Scotland where she started performing on the
stage at The Edinburgh Festival. At 16, she moved to London and was soon
involved in indie filmmaking (her first paid gig was as a stoner in Irvine
Welsh's The Acid House (1998)) and theatre acting, both as an actor as well as
a director. In 2004, she relocated to Los Angeles to direct "The
Woolgatherer" which was a stage play in which Anne Dudek (a regular guest
on Mad Men (2007)/Big Love (2006)) was directed. The play was praised by
critics. Her first US movie role was as "Stacy", the manipulative,
born again Christian and born again Christian, in Headspace (2005). She was
then cast in the role of "Thumper Wint", a unorthodox, born-again, Christian
in Sex and Death 101 (2006) (Simon Baker/Winona Rider) and directed by Heathers
(1988). The reviewers were awed by her distinctive combination of powerful
sexuality and irreverent humor. The actress was in LA and London, Exam (2009)
was the next film, which was nominated for BAFTA as Outstanding British Debut
and winner of Best Independent at the Santa Barbara Film Fest, the film's
critics said that Pollyanna's character was "smart and sassy at the same
time. ....the emotional heart of the film" The film's critics praised her
ability to identify the "emotional vulnerability" of her seemingly
powerful and tough character. GQ simply stated "stunning Pollyanna
McIntosh is an extremely talented actress". Como Quien No Quiere La Cosa
(2013) (As if you Don't Like it! She plays Trevor Lock, a disgruntled Brit
comedian. Filmed in Peru the film is a comedy that she speaks Spanish
throughout. John Landis directed Burke and Hare (2010). She appears as Isla
Fisher's bestie with Andy Serkis and Jessica Hynes, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Curry
and Tom Wilkinson. Her gruelling performance as the lead character in Lucky
McKee's The Woman (2011) made headlines at Sundance 2011, brought great reviews
and took the top spot in the New York Times readers' top films poll. She was honored
with three Best Actress Awards, including Total Film's Frightfest Award, and
Fright Meter's.
