ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30), and Michael Morgan on July 2, 1989. Morgan was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was an athlete of multiple sports throughout her early years, but first discovered soccer at 14. Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team and came first in the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. Morgan also finished third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to refine her skills in soccer in Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) picked Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also participated in the Olympic Development Division's regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring during her first season. She led the team to the NCAA Tournament in four years and to two times to the second round. Morgan was one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award and the first student from her college to make the list of Hermann Trophy finalists. Morgan finished her degree in 2010 with the third-highest number of goals and points in Berkeley. Morgan was able to manage soccer careers at the level of the national and college during her time at Berkeley. During her first year on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that stopped her from training with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April. In Mexico, Morgan scored her first international soccer goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a part-time player in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, earning her team a gold-medal. One of those goals was a win against Italy which secured the U.S. team the final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team, and he helped in the victory over France. Though the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first ever player to score both goals and assists in the final World Cup game.
